For a customer in Ostend, we supplied two double-walled, Vlarem-compliant, stainless steel storage tanks with accessories. This customer is one of Europe’s largest phthalic anhydride producers. Phthalic anhydride is a petrochemical intermediate used in the production of plasticisers (especially for PVC), alkyd resins, polyesters and dyes.
Sulphuric acid & sodium hydroxide
Sulphuric acid (H2SO4) is a mineral acid that is miscible with water. Sulphuric acid is colourless and odourless. It is one of the most important raw materials in the chemical industry. It is a very hazardous liquid and must be stored in accordance with European standards.
Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is a strong base chemical compound often used in various industrial processes such as paper, textile and soap production.
Project
The customer had to repair and retest its own NaOH and H2SO4 tanks. The customer uses these chemicals to correct the pH in their wastewater, with the result that there is a constant need for these raw materials.

Setup
For the storage of each of the two products, a double-walled stainless steel tank with pump and UPE and PTFE suction-pressure hoses was used.
The double-walled stainless steel storage tank is specifically designed for storing chemicals and waste streams:

A stainless steel diaphragm pump and PTFE suction-pressure hoses were provided to pump the sulphuric acid. In this way, the customer does not need to contact multiple suppliers. The stainless steel diaphragm pump can be used for a very wide variety of applications. This pump is resistant to many chemicals and is of the dry self-priming type.
Installation
The delivery and installation of the equipment was carried out with care by two Liqson technicians. Those experienced technicians installed the tanks and equipment in a safe and well-thought-out manner. Liqson can respond quickly to such projects.
