Following maintenance work at BENEO's production site in Oreye, Belgium, we were contacted for a temporary storage solution. The project involved the safe storage of two chemicals - sulphuric acid 50% and sodium bisulphite 39% - for a four-month period.
To meet this requirement, we supplied and installed four double-walled GRP tanks on a site prepared by the customer (excavated and levelled). The tanks were placed side by side, ready to be connected to the fixed pipes and pumps provided by BENEO.
About BENEO
BENEO specialises in the production of prebiotic dietary fibres extracted from chicory root, such as inulin and oligofructose. These natural ingredients are used in a variety of foods, including breakfast cereals, dairy products, pastries, sweets and baby food. The company works with more than 700 local farmers and uses a hot water extraction process to optimally preserve the fibre's nutritional value.
The role of chemicals in the process
- Sulphuric acid 50%: used for pH adjustment during fibre extraction or in the treatment of industrial wastewater.
- Sodium bisulphite 39%: prevents oxidation of organic compounds during production.
Our double-walled GRP tanks
The tanks deployed in this project are specifically designed for the safe storage of (hazardous) chemicals. They are made of fibreglass-reinforced polyester with vinyl ester resin and offer excellent chemical resistance. Each tank is equipped with:
- A 45° folding ladder
- A platform with folding handrails
- Digital level measurement
- Digital leak detection
- An overfill warning system at 95%
- An integrated spill tray for extra safety when filling and emptying
This project demonstrates our ability to provide fast, reliable and safe solutions for the temporary storage of chemicals, working closely with leading industry partners such as BENEO.
