At Amsterdam-Schiphol International Airport, Swissport uses a mixture of glycol and water to de-ice aircraft. This treatment is necessary for aircraft to take off safely during periods of frost.
Project
During the winter period of January 2026, Swissport found that their existing glycol storage capacity was insufficient to meet the increased demand. Therefore, they contacted Liqson to request a temporary storage solution at short notice.
A double-walled stainless steel tank, equipped with various safety and monitoring systems, was chosen for this project:
- Fully double-walled
- Digital level measurement with display
- Permanent digital leak detection
- Overfill warning system with audiovisual signal at 95% fill level
Service
In addition to the storage tank, Liqson also supplied a diaphragm pump and accompanying hoses to efficiently pump the glycol mixture.
As the pump runs on compressed air, Liqson also provided 10 metres of NBR compressed air hoses with Lüdecke couplings. The compressor itself was provided by Swissport.
This quick and flexible solution allowed Swissport to temporarily expand their glycol storage and continue de-icing operations at the airport without interruption.
