DOMESTIC WASTE WATER STORAGE TANK
At first glance, domestic waste water does not appear corrosive. But nothing could be further from the truth. During maintenance of a concrete tank during waste water treatment, it was discovered that it needed urgent repair. The waste stream is black, which is why it is called black water.
TEMPORARY RENTAL TANK DURING REPAIR
The concrete storage tank quickly became senescent due to the waste water. The reason for this was that there are various degradation processes.
- Chemical degradation due to aggressive waste water. This is due to the various sulphates, salts and chlorides that can be found in waste water.
- Fungal damage. The fungi attach themselves to the concrete and the growth of the hair roots causes weathering of the material.
- Deterioration due to oxidation on the tank wall. Increased concentrations of sulphides, polysulphides and sulphuric acid may be present in the air above the waste water.
- Deterioration due to physical processes such as dehydration, heating, humidification, etc.
A new coating was chosen for the existing tank. This will extend the service life.
Of course, this waste water treatment needed an alternative storage during the repair work. We installed a 50,000 l tank with digital level measurement, overflow and a telemetry signal box.
The signal box transmits the storage tank volume to an online platform. This allows the level to be monitored remotely.
