Short-term additional storage capacity for hydrochloric acid 15%

This industrial customer had a technical problem with a hydrochloric acid tank. they were looking for a reliable solution in the short term and so they came to liqson.

HCL

Hydrochloric acid is a highly inorganic acid. Hydrochloric acid is the aqueous solution of the gas hydrogen chloride.

This customer uses hydrochloric acid as a regeneration fluid during the softening process.

WATER SOFTENING

Major water users are obliged to soften their water.

The softener or ion exchanger will remove calcium and magnesium, iron and manganese from the water.

At the start of the softening process, the ions (the resin) are ready to exchange atoms.

The unwanted calcium, magnesium, iron and manganese ions in the liquid are exchanged with the sodium ions attached to the resin.

At some point the resin bed is saturated. Then the resin must be regenerated using hydrochloric acid.

TEMPORARY ADDITIONAL STORAGE CAPACITY

Due to a technical problem, this customer was obliged to temporarily decommission their own storage tank. There are many safety regulations for the storage of this hazardous liquid. Liqson’s tanks can be deployed quickly and easily for this purpose. The double-walled tank is equipped with a level measurement, leak detection and overfill protection.

By means of the handy flexible hoses, the switch was done quickly. In these situations, customers are grateful to be able to call on a partner like Liqson, who has both the hoses and the coupling pieces and other accessories in-house.

MOBILE GAS SCRUBBER (HIRE)

One of the dangers of storing hydrochloric acid is the vapours released from the tank. These vapours are released when filling the tank. Simply releasing acid fumes into the open air would pose a danger to humans, but also to nature.

The passive gas scrubber consists of a smaller tank filled with an absorption liquid (in this case neutral water). The chemically charged air is passed through the water and ensures that the air is cleaned. The air can leave the gas scrubber through the connection in the roof. This scrubber can be used for hydrochloric acid, acetic acid, etc.

A major advantage of a passive gas scrubber is its simplicity: only the liquid must be changed on a regular basis, so no pump, extraction or control is required. The liquid can freeze in winter, but Liqson’s mobile gas scrubbers are equipped with tracing and insulation.

The contaminated water must be processed by waste water treatment or can be used in internal processes. Water consumption depends mainly on the solubility of the medium to be washed, the odour threshold and the flow rates to be processed.

This set-up was extensively tested before installation on site.
