De-icing liquid storage for airports

DE-ICING LIQUID FOR AIRPORTS.

During the winter period, it is important that aircraft and runways are kept ice-free.

ADI OR AIRCRAFT DE-ICING:

ADI are glycols that contain corrosion inhibitors (substances added to chemicals to reduce corrosion rates) and thickeners. They are non-hazardous liquids.

DE-ICING LIQUIDS ARE AVAILABLE IN VARIOUS TYPES.

Type 1 is used to remove ice and snow. Type 1 has a low viscosity.

Type 2 and 4 are used to have holdover time. Holdover time is the time it takes to be able to taxi for a quarter of an hour in a snowstorm, for example, without the snow sticking on an aircraft.

Type 3 is a “compromise” between type 1 and 2. These usually have a light yellow colour.

These liquids don’t last forever. The de-icing liquid must be returned to the manufacturer after the winter.

Some airports already have their own facilities for recycling the melt water + the ADI.

RWD OR RUNWAY DEICING:

Potassium acetate and potassium formate: Neutralisation of acetic acid (acetate) or formic acid (formate) with potassium hydroxide. The result is an organic salt sold in liquid form.

Sodium acetate and sodium formate:  Neutralisation of acetic acid or formic acid with sodium hydroxide (NaOH). The result is a solid organic salt that is therefore sold as pellets. This is spread dry, sometimes in combination with potassium acetate or potassium formate.

PROBLEM:

Due to the falling prices of air tickets, this airport is experiencing strong growth.

More flights also means having to make more planes ice-free in winter. This airport was therefore looking for rapidly increasing storage capacity without major investments

SOLUTION:

For the storage of the aircraft de-icing liquid, Liqson supplied a 50,000L aluminium tank with digital level measurement. The tanks were fitted with stainless steel quick couplings. Flexible hoses and a plastic pump were also provided.

An aluminium storage tank with all the necessary accessories was also provided for runway de-icing.

Finally, we have provided additional storage capacity for brine. Ready-to-use salt brine for de-icing access roads, car parks, etc. This very pure salt brine has a concentration of 23% NaCl. By opting for ready-made brine, you do not need to invest in a salt solver.

The mobile tanks were tested and professionally cleaned prior to delivery.

Liqson can respond quickly to such projects. The quickly deployable tanks and accessories can be offered for the long and short term. Always with the best service and at competitive prices

With a large stock of rental tanks, pumps, hoses and coupling pieces, we are the partner for temporary storage of liquids.
